WP1: Odesa partners of SEHSI project proposed members of consortium to join the First International Coastal Urban Forum devoted to sustainable development of concrete territory (Sergeevca) situated in Odesa region. The Forum included scientific conference, master classes, practical students workshop and round table. It is expected that Forum results will become basis for territory planning and management. The program of Forum included the following issues: 1) prospectives of developing territory planning potential of costal territories in the context of sustainability; 2) making territory development decisions on the basis of complex analysis; 3) landscape-territory planning organization of recreation zones; 4) transport-engineering infrastructure of costal territories; 5) developing costal territories for public use; 6) organization of water resources rational use and protection; 7) problems of costal territories water supply and ways of their solving; 8) architectural-territory development objects on the water; 9) architectural-tourist recreation system of coastal territories by using resources of historical and cultural heritage; 10) medical tourism: sanitarium-resort healing, SPA, wellness technologies. EU and UA members of SEHSI and SEHUD (project devoted to urban sustainability that was completed in 2015) consortiums made reports for sharing RSD ideas developed within the EU projects. Students and tutors from Odesa, Kharkiv, Dnepr, Lviv Universities took part in developing projects of concrete territory (Sergeevca) sustainable development based on experience gained within SEHSI pilot training. Multidisciplinary students teams of workshop participants corresponded to RSD profiles developed within SEHSI project.
WP2: RSD curriculum: the Forum considerably enriched SEHSI training methodology and materials. Methodology was developed in the context of providing synergy of the triangle: education – management – business. Complex system approach allowed to involve in the work of the Forum experts of sustainable development multidisciplinary field (city planners, architects, engineers, economists, sociologists, ecologists, medical workers) as well as representatives of local authorities and business circles. Diversity of concrete presentations and reports that reflected state of the art of UA territories sustainable development as well as world experience presented by EU experts helped to provide valuable materials for modules of RSD curriculum. The following reports and presentations were included into SEHSI database as supplementary materials : “Documents and Practice. Space Development Concept and Municipality Development Plan. Black Sea Coast” by Rositsa Nikiforova (VFU); “Brasilia and Curitibia. Lessons for Sustainable Development” by John Barber (Cambridge University); “Proposal for Measuring Anthropogenic Impact. The Case of Ribbon Development in Coastal and Urban Space” by John Kiousopoulos (TEI-A).
WP3: STVTeam platform & OmniBase: the Forum produced diverse and valuable materials for STVTeam platform & OmniBase. Lectures, reports and presentations (see WP2) delivered within scientific conference were distributed in accordance with RSD modules themes and uploaded to STVTeam platform as supplementary materials. These materials were also uploaded to self developing knowledge base “OmniBase” as a resources for flexible RSD training course development. 6 multidisciplinary students projects (Park, Bridge, Sand bar in short-and long-term perspective) devoted to concrete territory (Sergeevca) sustainable development were uploaded to the unit of summer schools in OmniBase for disseminating experience gained by students within SEHSI pilot phase. Student projects were devoted to solving three key problems dealing with developing Sergeevca promenade, 1.5 km bridge and 7 km sand bar (2 projects for each issue). It was agreed to open a page devoted to students projects discussion.
WP4: Students workshop: students of Odessa, Kharkiv, Dnepr, Lviv and Kiev universities took part in the practical workshop devoted to concrete territory (Sergeevca) sustainable development (promenade, 1.5 km bridge and 7 km sand bar). Students were divided into multidisciplinary groups including city planners, architects, civil engineers and managers. Every project after its development by the group of city planners, architects and engineers was analyzed from the point of view of its efficiency, possible risks with developing precise plan of realization by MSc in management and finance. Concrete figures and graphics were presented for comparison. The task was to make project low cost and quick in realization. Students teams included participants from different universities that allowed them to share approaches they used within their schools. As a result synergy was achieved and students groups became real teams. Tutors did not interfere into creative process helping from background and supporting the process. Parallel to students workshop the Forum included scientific conference, master classes and round table. This way of organization allowed students to get information directly from leading EU & UA experts in RSD and multidisciplinary fields connected with it. Master classes were inspiring and invested in the workshop as an educational event. Students presence and participation in Round table gave them vision of contemporary debates and problems concerning concrete territory sustainable development. In addition to experts knowledge they had opportunity to learn the authorities and businessmen expectations and attitudes that considerably influenced the feasibility of students projects. This synergy of knowledge, experience, approaches and cultures produced really impressive results. Students projects were innovative, creative, realistic and efficient. The team of winners have got not only the prize but the decision of Sergeevca administration to realize it in the nearest future. Other project that have complementary nature were decided to develop and present for prospective development of Sergeevca. The methodology of students multidisciplinary multiapproach workshop in synergy with scientific conference, master classes and round tables can be disseminated for international summer schools.
WP5: The Forum was evaluated on the basis of SEHSI methodology. Profiles of conference, master classes, round table and students workshop were built. External evaluation was presented by International jury that evaluated students project devoted to the concrete territory (Sergeevca) sustainable development. Special methodology and criteria were developed for evaluating students multidisciplinary projects. In addition all students project were evaluated by experts in administration and finance in accordance with efficiency, risks and feasibility scale. All these invested into students projects efficiency and as a whole the results turned to be higher than it was expected. It was decided to include into evaluation package methodologies and instruments that was presented and tested during students workshop.
WP6: SEHSI dissemination: during the Forum dissemination of SEHSI project results and gained experience was presented in different forms: 1) EU experts of SEHSI and SEHUD consortium delivered 4 reports concerning case studies of sustainable development of Varna presented by Rositza Nikiforova (Bulgaria) and Brazilia presented by John Barber (GB) who also made political analysis of situation in Ukraine. John Ciasopulos (Greece) made original report devoted to the concrete measurement of the sustainable development efficiency; 2) Rector of Kharkiv university Yuriy Shkodovskiy performed master class for students participating in the workshop; 3) UA coordinator Tatiana Seegeyeva shared experience of using RSD platform, site and self-developing knowledge base for collaborative activity within EU network. It was decided to issue students projects in the selection of works devoted to the SEHSI summer schools for the purpose of disseminating UA experience within EU educational space. Materials of conference as well as students workshop devoted to concrete territory (Sergeevca) sustainable development are presented at SEHSI site for the purpose of dissemination in the formats of event description, photo gallery and SEHSI diary. 16 presentations of EU & UA experts as well as 6 students project on Sergeevca sustainable development were uploaded to OmniBase for the dissemination package.
WP7: The Forum where participated territory planners, architects, engineers, experts dealing with health resort issues as well as territory administration and business sector gave wast opportunity for developing RSD network. Academics, practitioners, authorities and businessmen dealing with territory sustainability were involved into RSD network including: Belgorod-Dnestrovskiy chief architect and Sergeevca administration as well as new UA experts in sustainable architecture, city management and resort development from all over Ukraine. Most of them are decision makers in their concrete field. It was agreed with Forum organizers to issue students projects in SEHSI selection of students projects developed within summer schools that is aimed at providing project sustainability after its official end. Very significant in the context of EU projects sustainability became the participation of EU members of SEHUD consortium (the project finished in 2015) in the Forum who were involved into the work of the conference and students workshop. One more significant decision aimed at project sustainability deals with developing strategic plan for providing language competence for supporting future activity in collaboration with Cambridge university.
WP8: SEHSI coordination meeting was organized during the Forum. It was devoted to current issues at the final stage of project. Detailed analysis of situation with RSD CU readiness for publication was made and coordinators of Dnepr and Odessa universities promised to present their 4 CU within 1 week. Financial issues was discussed with financial manager from Vienna TU Nina Maihoffer. The problem concerned travel of Kharkiv university representatives to final meeting in Varna was solved on the basis of collaborative approach. It was also discussed some issues concerning involving UA representatives of business into SEHSI activity aimed at supporting UA teams participation in EU summer schools for providing SEHSI project sustainability.
